Ayuda para el estudiante latino

A UNC program that helps Latino high school students advance to college is trying to win a contest that will give it essential funds it needs to keep growing.

The Scholars' Latino Initiative is a program in which UNC students work to mentor students from Jordan-Matthews High School in Siler City for three years.

SLI is trying to win a contest called America's Giving Challenge, in which the top four charities with the most donations win $50,000.

The initiative is in sixth place, and Thursday is the last day of the competition. ...

SLI needs more funds to be able to continue offering scholarships to the Latino students who want to attend college but cannot afford it.

Según el reportaje, el programa Scholars’ Latino Initiative de UNC busca quedar entre los cuatro programas ganadores de la competencia America’s Giving Challenge. Si SLI lo logra recibirá 50 mil dólares. La competencia concluye el jueves y SLI está en sexto lugar.

Estudiantes de UNC que participan en SLI trabajan como mentores para estudiantes latinos en la secundaria Jordan-Matthews en Siler City, un poblado cerca de Raleigh. SLI planea usar los fondos para continuar a ofrecer becas universitarias y quizas expandir el programa.
