¿Por qué votan los latinos?

Durante el periódo de votación anticipada, el Observer publicó las fotografías de personas del área en las cual explicaron porque votaron, incluso a dos de la comunidad latina. En el área de Charlotte, más de 14 mil personas se identifican como latinos/hispanos en los registros de votación. Aquí están algunos de estos votantes en nuestra comunidad (las respuestas se traducieron del inglés:

During the early voting period, the Observer published photographs of local folks who explained why they voted, including two from the Latino community. More than 14,000 people in the Charlotte area have identified themselves as Hispanic in the current voter rolls. Here are a few of those voters (replies sent in English and tr-anslated):

Why I voted: It is our civic duty to vote. We should not have to wait for important elections to get inspired to vote. Also, the next president will affect all of our lives, it is important that we take time out to vote.

Why I voted: I want to express my opinion in the ballot. I want to exercise one of the most (or the most) important privileges that I received, becoming an American citizen. I feel a part of this great nation, that opens its arms and embraces us. I want to be an active part of democracy, not just a bystander. I want a stronger nation for my children and grandchildren and the generations to come. I can choose the candidate that I think is the best for the future of the country. I can choose the candidate that shares my values, that demostrates compassion, leadership, character, honesty (as honest as a politician can be). A candidate that reaches everyone not just the elite.

Por qué voté: Quiero expresar mi opinión en la boleta electoral. Quiero ejercer uno de los más (o el más) importantes privilegios que he recibido, convirtiéndome en una ciudadana americana. Me siento parte de esta gran nación, que abre sus brazos y nos abraza. Quiero ser una parte activa de la democracia, no sólo un espectador. Quiero una nación más fuerte para mis hijos y nietos y las generaciones venideras. Yo puedo elegir el candidato que creo que es el mejor para el futuro del país. Yo puedo elegir el candidato que comparte mis valores, que demuestra la compasión, liderazgo, el carácter, la honestidad (tan honesto como un político puede ser). Un candidato que llegue a todos no sólo a la élite.

Why I voted/Por qué voté: I have never been involved so much in a presidential campaign, but this campaign is different. We need a change and Obama is the only presidential candidate that can give us that. I voted last (week), and I felt very emotional in that moment because Obama will become the next president of the U.S and I felt proud that I had something to do with it. … I work with high students and know that the Dream Act will allow students to have a dream in this country.

Por qué voté: Nunca he estado tan involucrada en una campaña presidencial, pero esta campaña es diferente. Necesitamos un cambio, y Obama es el único candidato presidencial que nos lo puede dar. Voté (las semana pasada) y me sentí muy emocional en ese momento porque Obama se convirtirá en el próximo presidente de los Estados Unidos, y me sentí orgullosa que tuve algo que ver con eso. Trabajo con estudiantes de secundaria y sé que el “DREAM Act” permitirá que los estudiantes tengan un sueño en este país.

Why I voted: I voted because is a right that all citizens of United States should exercise, in order to their voices to be heard. The most important reason why I vote is because my opinion does count, and I will elect the person who identifies with my beliefs, needs and who illustrates leadership to bring this great nation back to good standing. I vote because, if I don't, I am allowing others to ignore me and not do anything to show me that I am important. If I don't vote, I do not count!! This is why I vote.

Por qué voté: He votado porque es un derecho que todos los ciudadanos de Estados Unidos deberían ejercer, a fin de que sus voces se escuchen. La razón más importante por la cual voté es porque mi opinión si cuenta, y elegiré a la persona que se identifica con mis creencias, necesidades y que ilustra el liderazgo para regresar esta gran nación de nuevo en buen pie. Yo voto porque, si no, estoy permitiendo que otros me ignoren y no hagan nada para mostrarme que soy importante. Si yo no voto, no cuento! Esta es la razón por la cual voto.
